Pretty Mommy Giveaway Event!!!

Ready for another great event?

Well, I know I've told this story many times, to many people before, but here it is, again! (I've since settled down a bit and become less obsessive...)

When I was pregnant, I was a toxin nazi. I would change my shampoo, lotion, and condition to make sure I had the most natural, phthalate-free product I could find. I didn't eat anything with nitrates if I could help it. I even held my breath in malls when I would waddle past a nail salon (or any other fume-y situation!) So, it is pretty fitting that I would want to be involved with this event! There is so much information out there for when you are expecting about breastfeeding, exercise, and all sorts of OTHER important factors, but not as much about toxins and additives! So, lets take this fun opportunity to LEARN and WIN!!!

Is it just me?

Alright, as with the natural state of flux in my life, I went in to sub yesterday morning. Feeling confident, totally on time, things were going great.

Then, I was switched out to 2nd grade, trumped by another sub that ONLY does Kindergarten. I was told "count your blessings," by a para-professional at the school. So, I felt lucky.

ENTER 2nd graders.

The first one came in and told me, "You are creepy." After my "good morning" greeting to her. Great start. And, I totally don't consider myself creepy, by elementary standards! Haha!

Then, the rest of the class came in. The first thing I heard was "Jesus Christ!" I didn't know 7-ish year olds said things like that in public. Then, lots name-calling. Someone yelled "Aaron bit me!" This was all before 9am!

I quickly identified the 3 problem starters that instigated within the whole classroom. I only had to have a para come get them 3 times that day. And it REALLY helped! They are GREAT at what they do!

Oral Dictation: Trouble Maker #1 hands in his paper with only his name and one word on the paper. I guess it WAS spelled correctly, but ASS was NOT a spelling word!

Math: Counting Buttons. Totally failed. I was so frazzled by 15 kids all yelling, talking, and asking for help at once that I could barely add 8 + 6 + 7 = ??? Haha! I did try to remember though, that even though I tried to get their assignments done, I was more importantly there to keep them safe and basically babysit.

Oh, did I mention that there was a fire drill?!?! OF COURSE there was a fire drill! Why wouldn't there be a fire drill my first time in that school!?!?

Social Studies: Cornucopia. Not the only part of the day that reminded me of the Hunger Games!!! We used safety scissors to cut out fruit/veggies for the paper cornucopia. They were supposed to color, cut, and write words of thank on the paper. I think 2 kids managed to get most of this done. Probably 7 or so were doing something entirely different -- ranging from playing piano to crawling under desks. One girl had a sizable pile of her own hair sitting on her desk. Holy shit! I cannot believe that 7 yr olds act like this!

During our class meeting, one kiddo said that he watched a scary movie called "Saw." I CANNOT believe anyone would let a child watch this. I don't even watch it because it's so horrible. I'm not one of those movie nazis that think television and video games are the absolute cause of societal problems, but really? A 2nd grader watching Saw? You don't think that's a little extreme, parents?!? I got a lot of reports that they were with one parent or the other during the weekend, making me feel like the entire class came from separated familys.

Lastly, one of the "trouble-makers" got a note from the office that said he'd being going to Location X instead of his regular Location Z today after school and he just about cried saying "I don't want to go home." That made ME just about cry. I felt so bad for the kiddo!

So, that was just some of the highlights and low points of the day --- I also got about 5 hugs. *Which, on a sidenote I was wondering if that was even ALLOWED for the teacher to get a hug these days?* Or, if in this super-padded ultra offensive world we live in, there had been a lawsuit at some point that made it inappropriate to receive a hug from a student?

My question and what I thought about ALL day was this: Is it just me, or are kids these days really horrible!?!? And, in response to my thinking that, I immediately ammended that thought to: ARE PARENTS THAT BAD TODAY?!? I cannot imagine uttering such disrespectful garbage as an elementary student (it wasn't until maybe senior year that I even thought about swearing in front of a teacher, and even then, it's one of my biggest regrets!) I cannot imagine getting to watch R-rated morbid, disgusting movies. Even if I "snuck" to watch something creepy or vulgar and my parents didn't know about it right away, it wouldn't have been anything as bad as Saw. And, they wouldn't have knowingly let me watch it.

Is it just me? Does anyone else feel like a candidate for Doomsday Preppers --- thinking that society is going to collapse because of the rotten beasts we're raising?!?!

*Please note: I do not actually think children on the whole are rotten beasts. I think children are usually a product of their environment, exposure to love, and genetics. I have a dash of sarcasm in posting this. I am being somewhat sarcastic here, BUT, I really do think there is a vast difference between "the good old days" and now. And it is scary. And sad.

Natural Living Mamma Dry Itchy Skin Salve Spotlight & Review #Thankfully Handmade

For me, this time comes every year. You see, I have the kind of skin that is perpetually dry. I abuse my skin. I am constantly in the wind and sun and I never take the time to do a daily lotioning after the shower. I also have very fair, sensitive skin, so when I DO get a chance to put something on it, it cannot be the perfumed stuff from the local bath & body product store. I have to buy something special, generally the most expensive skin treatment product on the shelf.

So, when I got the chance to try Natural Living Mamma's Dry Itchy Skin Salve, I was so excited! Winters in the Midwest wreak havoc on my skin and its just begun to be that time of year, and though it's been pretty warm so far, one can always plan ahead a bit!

Here is the smaller jar, around 2.5 oz. As you can see, the ingredients are listed on the jar.

I do love a good salve. I should really take a photo of all of my salves just to show you guys what a salve junkie I am. I have stuff for sore muscles, sleeping, after the sun, Mentholatum for being stuffy, hard-working hands, foot rub, baby balms, mama balms, citronella bug balm and probably several others that I'm forgetting. I've been a big Burt's Bees Hand Salve fan in the past, so I figured that a new salve to add to my affinity for the stuff wouldn't be a bad idea!

Here's what's inside! I love the subtle smell and the fact that it's a twist off lid!
I didn't find this dry skin salve to be particularly greasy, which sometimes Burt's Bees can be and I end up flinging the whole tin across the room due to my butterfingers and the added grease! I really liked this salve for knees, knuckles and elbows. My kiddo has really dry legs and I pretty much slathered him in the remainder of the jar the other night -- it really does help. I think what I really found beneficial was that compared with our usual regime (Aveeno lotion) for our toddler, this salve seemed to block some of the harsh, cold air and wind from exposed parts like cheeks and hands.
It would be great if this could come in a squeezable tube, since when you're dealing with a kiddo and trying to smear as fast as possible, jars are not as efficient. But, for an adult, it's great! I will likely upcycle the jar for storing small crafting beads, so I do like that you can recycle a jar vs. a tube. But, for ease of use, the tube wins in my world. Otherwise, my only other thought would be maybe adding different scents with essential oils? I'm not one to go hog wild with perfumes or anything, but I do love essential oils! This mama CAN customize a recipe for you to make sure that you get what you need to out of this salve! She even shares her recipe and all of the essential oils and herbs that go into perfecting the salve in this post.
You can BUY this salve and many other great handmade products at the Natural Living Mamma store! You can also WIN a 4 oz. jar of Dry Itchy Skin Salve by entering the Thankfully Handmade Giveaway hop! Make sure you show some love and say that Adventures of Mommyhood sent you!
**Disclosure: I did receive a sample of this product to complete my review. All opinions are 100% my own. I was not compensated in any other way.**

#Thankfully Handmade Sponsor Review Spotlight - Petal Connection

Simona is the lovely lady and creative guru behind Petal Connection. She and her pretty jewelry can be found at Wedding Flower Jewelry, the Petal Connection Etsy shop, and on her main website.

Petal Connection is where you can find super unique jewelry for every occasion. These items are just as individual as the butterflies, flowers, and plants that they are derived from! I chose some very brilliantly colored wing earrings from a Blue Morpho Butterfly. I love many butterflies and moths, but the Blue Morpho holds a special spot in my soul from my days studying in Costa Rica when I actually saw one flit across the sky. Jungle-dwelling butterflies, Blue Morphos can be found in much of Central and parts of South America.

Here is a photo feature so many of the pretties you can find from Petal Connection!

These cool earrings are what I would call "reversible" if  they were a garment!! They are blue on one side and kind of a tan/iridescent color on the other. When the butterflies are mid-air, the blue as seen from below blends in with the sky color and from above or the side, on each wing beat, the butterfly sort of "disappears" -- both are helpful for escaping potential predators! That side also features some 'owl eye' spots. No matter what, this is a very gnarly bit of glamorous nature to sport! But, for fashion purposes -- it matches 2 outfits and makes them that much more fun!

Here is the iridescent blue (front) side of the Blue Morpho wings!

And here is one wing flipped to the "disappear" and "owl eye" side. Cool, right?

As delicate as butterfly wings are, the coating over these makes them not-so-fragile, which is one aspect that I really love about these earrings. I have a pair that are darling, that are made from real fish scales and they are so delicate I cannot wear them! With a small toddler, you need jewelry that will withstand all sorts of torment! These earrings pass the toddler test! You can find lots of great photos and information about Petal Connection via Facebook too! Go ahead, "like" Petal Connection and show Simona some love! You'll get lots of updates on the goings-on of the shop and the photos will keep you drooling and hinting to your closest friends and family when it comes to birthdays and holidays!!

Here is a shot of the thickness of this earring. It's not paper-thin, and it feels like great quality!

The most admirable and awesome fact about these great works of wearable art is that they are made from "end of life" butterflies--so no butterflies were captured from their wild habitat to make earrings!

And, just for a bit of a reference, here is a quarter next to a wing earring.

You know how I'm always talking about "if I would have known about this before my wedding...." Well, Petal Connection fits into that category! I would have loved to have made my something blue a pretty flower pendant or my Blue Morpho earrings! Instead, I was lame and had blue underwear. Flower Wedding Jewelry specializes in making your special day even more special by handcrafting the most amazing blooms to compliment any brides color scheme! They would also make very sincere personal gifts for your wedding party! Perhaps the most original and practical application of Simona's talents for brides are bouquet preservation skills!!! How many of you have a dried up old dusty bunch of roses or something on your bedroom wall? How about some blooms or petals from your bridal bouquet pressed in a book -- you're not sure which book since it's been so many years but by golly, you're saving part of your beautiful, expensive bouquet! Yeah---that's totally me. I wish I had known about this artful service too! Make sure if you're a bride-to-be or if you're in the wedding party of a good friend and want to do something really special for a gift, that you check out the Wedding Flower Jewelry page and learn all about it!

ENTER TO WIN your own cool Petal Connection nature bling or, visit one of Simona's pages to BUY whatever you'd like! Make sure when you're boppin' around visiting her sites and pages that you tell her THANK YOU for being a great Thankfully Handmade sponsor!

Disclosure: I received a pair of earrings to complete this review spotlight. I did not receive any other compensation and opinions are 100% my own and honest.**

Jenny's Tidal Treasures Sponsor Review Spotlight #Thankfully Handmade

greaJenny is the crafty lady behind Jenny's Tidal Treasures Etsy shop! You can also find Jenny and her creations on Facebook -- let her know she rocks and that Amanda sent you! She is so full of enthusiasm and might I say, talent! I was really excited to see her creations in real life! This little box came to my mailbox and it was a delight to open!!

Inside the cute little box were cute little earrings!

Ever since living on the ocean, I've been enamored with sea glass. It's natural upcycling! All of the garbage that is laced in the ocean waters gets beaten and pulverized and eventually, ends up on shore much of the time. The glass that gets broken, sloshed around, polished and washed up is often sought out by beachcombers all over the shorelines of the world. Where I was in Alaska, people would find whole glass floats from old maritime ships -- these were true collectors items! I was happy with pieces of colorful glass though. And, I found a few pieces, but they just got tossed into my jar of beach goodies. Jenny has taken beachcombing and nature's upcycling to a new level by making gorgeous jewelry from what she finds!

What's really neat is because of the nature of how the materials come about, there can never be 2 pieces that are the same --- not even 2 earrings in a set! These pieces of glass are closely matched, but they are never the same. These earrings are set in a silver fishhook style earring and are wrapped with a VERY lightweight wire. They are simply and dainty but completely green, unique and stylish!

She also uses stones, shells, and driftwood---other great beachcombing treasures to craft all sorts of items like earrings, necklaces, bracelets, windchimes, and other household decorations. Jenny can do custom orders if there is something you have an idea to make! Jenny embellishes a lot of her great glass finds with other beads, charms and jewels to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art for you! I am loving the earrings -- they are super lightweight and are not something you find in every store in the mall! I like being different and these earrings definitely set you apart from the crowd! Take a look at Jenny's Tidal Treasures Etsy shop to see all of the totally neat jewelry creations that are on display! While you're there, since you're going to love all her work, you should spread the love and "heart" her shop! You can WIN a necklace from her shop by entering my Thankfully Handmade giveaway hop, since Jenny is a fabulous sponsor! Or, you can shop around and BUY whatever your heart desires (these make great green glittery glass gifts for loved ones!)

Frying Pan to Fire

So, finally I am available to substitute teach. I've had my short-call license for about 3 years (yes, I've paid $160 to keep and renew the damn thing, but am just using it now.) In that time, I either had other plans, had no daycare, or it was summer and there was no school. Now, the secretary at the school called me personally and actually had the luck of getting ME to answer the phone and not my husband or father-in-law. So, I was obliged to say YES.

IMPORTANT point to remember---ask whom you are subbing for. Turns out I said YES to Kindergarten. My first assignment teaching since back in 2010 when I was a Teachers' Assistant for preschool. Did I forget that one day on my feet with all of those needy youngsters was harder than ANY day I spend scaling mountains doing wildlife research OR a day of fighting wildfires? I place teaching those 8 years old and younger akin to the first trimester of pregnancy---I feel THAT tired afterwards!

I'm super excited to make money, get out of the house, and have some new experiences. I DO love teaching and I also love working with the real little kids, but I'm out of practice. I feel like I truly have been thrown from the frying pan directly into the fire. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm REALLY intimidated by all those kiddos! I don't remember if you eat WITH the kids in the lunchroom. I don't know how I'll get a pee break--I can't LEAVE the kids! I don't remember if I bring a lunch or get a prep hour to chill out without the kids. I don't even remember if I go out to recess with them. The school opens at 7:30 and I plan to be there with bells on and coffee (but not too much!!) in hand. I am going to wander around, talk to the para and the office ladies.

I'm sure it will be just fine, but how am I going to escape to pump!?!? Wish me luck folks!

Cinagro Farm Hair Falls Review Spotlight

Okay, so some of you saw the sneak peek of the 'Primal' Hair Falls by Cinagro Farm. Here is the whole story! First of all, I need you all to go 'Like' Angie's Cinagro Farm Facebook page.

She has great content--from adorable pictures of baby calves to her newest items in the Etsy shop--including a new bunch of mini-hair falls clips! Make sure you tell her not only THANK YOU for sponsoring a gift card to her shop for the Thankfully Handmade Giveaway Hop, but also let her know that her items are unique and naturally beautiful---or whatever words move your soul when you see her art!
An example of a beautiful mini clip.

The names that accompany the hair falls are incredibly telling of not only the spirit of the piece, but also of Angie herself. She was such a delight to message back and forth with! About life and all sorts of nature-related things! It would be cool to be her neighbor--I would love to see the farm and take a tour! Not to mention, see her roll and craft all of these great artistic accessories! There is an absolute appreciation of nature, and all of the gifts and bounty that the earth gives to us, everyday in each of the hair falls and clips Angie makes. She uses sustainable means (such as gathering fallen feathers) in making her falls. Like us, Angie's family has chickens AND a nearby pheasant farm. She also finds some of the 'wild' feathers on nature walks.
Here is a feather/bead combo, adorning the end of a wool dread from my falls.

I really wish I would have had my hair falls to see Mason Jennings and Jack Johnson in concert. It would have been a great place to sport them! (I'd have been worried about someone spilling a microbrew or something on them though, in the midst of all the action of in the dancing and roaming I did!)

Inspired by nature but enhanced by upcycled vintage jewelry from thrift stores, these are handmade, green gifts for yourself or someone you love to enjoy! The conditions that the items in the Cinagro Farm Etsy shop are made are just that---on a farm! A family farm, uniquely producing each piece, from growing the birds that drop the feathers to the thought and care that goes into decorating each one... This is American art. As you can see from the pictures, both borrowed from Cinagro Farm's shop and my own of my 'Primal' hair falls, the colors are extremely vibrant and emulate fall in the Midwest for me! The others like 'Gaia' and 'Galactic Summit,' remind me of mermaids and summer in Alaska next to a glacier, respectively.

Here is 'Galactic Summit' in a hair falls, available in the Cinagro Etsy shop.

As some of you know, I have rekindled my love affair with running, and I was lucky enough to have my hair falls for an October Audubon 5k this fall. I felt so wonderfully 'at home' with my woolly, feathery addition to my ensemble!! I shaved 4 minutes off of my run time and I was able to mingle with an American Kestrel and a tiny Screech Owl. I think they may have accepted me as an odd pheasant or something, judging from my plumage! Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of that day, since it was a ME day and I left the fam at home, along with the camera! But, I've put my falls through the ringer, including that day---the impact of running didn't jostle my cool coif out of place AND there was a steady drizzle that morning, and the humidity didn't seem to hurt them or change them either.
Here is another view of the great autumn colors in my 'Primal' hair falls.

I've not come across more beautiful hair accessories ever. These falls are so pretty and unique while also very obviously made with passion and quality. Angie was so fun and inspiring to communicate with! She shipped to me super fast and was only a message away if I needed any information. I do wish I had known about Cinagro Farm before my wedding---I would have used a hair falls instead of a veil to really make a beautiful natural statement! I'm sure she could create something epic for a bride!
I adore the contrasting colors of this feather set and antler bead from my 'Primal' hair falls!

I wear my falls shopping and out for cocktails with the girls. My friends all call me eccentric, but I call me AWESOME. There is no shortage of compliments and looks of amazement and wonder thrown my way when I wear my falls. Since I live in a pretty conservative area, I'm certain in 15,000 people, I am likely the only one with hair falls. I think I've seen 2 people at our small community college with dreads, but I believe they had to really work for theirs, as it was definitely their actual hair. I've long been a fan of dreads, but I have very thin and fine hair, so I would have about 3 dreads total if I were to try the conventional approach. Angie was able to make my dream come true by crafting something I can add INTO my hair, rather than try to make my hair defy my genetics! What's really neat is that as old school as my town seems, even the older ladies actually admire the craftsmanship of the hair falls and ask kind questions about it.

I am a hunter. A subsistence enthusiast and practitioner. My husband and I spend much of our time out and about with our little one, hunting, fishing, collecting, picking, and gathering many of the natural sources of sustenance that our region boasts. We harvest our own wild rice and we have been enjoying white-tailed deer hunting most recently. Some of the beadwork within the hairfalls are antler beads, another sustainable element of the pieces. Antlers (for those of you that may not know) are shed from the pedicle of the deers' head each year, and antler hunting or "shed" hunting is a pretty popular hobby in many areas. Antlers can be used for beads, knife hilts, door knobs, and many other applications--but I do have to say they make very handsome embellishments in the hair falls!

Can you imagine how your hands might feel after rolling these bad boys? What talent & patience!

It makes my heart happy to hear my toddler say "mama" when he sees the hair falls hanging on a hook (where I keep jewelry too) near our bathroom. Obviously, he associates the rovings, feathers, and beads with me, which makes me very happy! I feel like a goddess wearing my hair falls, I may even wear them substitute teaching next week--teach the Kindergarteners about feathers and antlers and sustainability! Maybe we'll even do a craft time inspired by Cinagro Farm!

There is no bad place to wear a hair accessory like these beautiful falls. The newest addition to the Etsy shop -- "Galactic Summit" is to die for. It's vibrant and lovely! And, YOU can win a gift card to Angies shop, to put toward something ethereal and earthy! Or, maybe Angie can work with you on something truly your own, crafted by her artistic genius. Anytime that you'd like you can also BUY whatever suits your fancy from the Cinagro Farm Etsy shop.

Make sure you stop by the shop take advantage of her 25% off discount, in honor of supporting local and small businesses everywhere this holiday season!

Diesel Lace Designs Review Spotlight

I have a unique Hunting Hop giveaway package. I stayed away from gear FOR the hunt and found things that you could enjoy that are hunting-minded, but not necessarily needed to bag the big buck or take down some flighty pheasants.

Now, we'll take a look at some great GREEN jewelry! Have you ever gotten done hunting and saved your expired casings for keepsakes? Picked them up just so that you wouldn't be littering in the woods? Have you saved them for sentimental value, wondering what you will ever do with them, only to find years later that they are still just rolling around in a shoebox? Well, Diesel Lace Designs has found a trendy way to upcycle those casings and give them a second SHOT at life...(pardon the cheesy pun!)

Here is a really pretty ring, similar to the one I received -- just a little more blingin'! And mine was from a Colt 45. There are many calibers to choose from.
Tyler is the newly married and talented creator of the items in the Diesel Lace Designs Etsy store. He was super friendly to work with and has such a cool selection of jewelry and other neat and upcycled casing-related steampunk creations!
I really love how the brass makes the gems pop!

Not only do they have rings and earrings, they have custom Xbox controllers for the men-folk (or the lovely ladies that like to game it!) There are cufflinks and boots for weddings--this place is a seriously unique stronghold for all things casing-creative!

For me, the ring and earrings I tried are adorable and I love to sport them (especially now, during rifle season!) I am sensitive to certain metals, but so far in my wearing the earrings, no problems. [I even have to clear nail polish coat the backs of my jeans buttons!] So, I think it's safe to say that these earrings don't make me react.

The size as proptioned to your ear is perfect. I like that you can get plain rounds (like the ones I am sporting) or some bejeweled studs. I'm pretty sure you can find most every birthstone color in the shop's selection.

Here are all of the colors/gems available:

Lt. Rose
Blue Zircon
Lavender Purple
Emerald Dark Green
Light Yellow
Smoked Topaz
Cobalt Blue
Amethyst Purple
Light Purple
Silver Hematite
Citrine Yellow
Light Sapphire Blue
Jet Hematite
Light Siam Red

For those of you that are avid hunters or sportsmen, wouldn't it be great to have all the wedding party (or at least the bride and groom) having matching cuff links and earrings? You can enter to WIN some original casing jewelry or you can go on over to the Diesel Lace Design Etsy shop and snoop around 'til you find what you like and BUY it!

Melissa & Doug Terrific Twenty List and Giveaways!

The 20 Days of Terrific Twenty from Melissa & Doug!!!

Everyone that has kiddos or spends any time around the toy aisle, loves Melissa & Doug! My first Melissa & Doug experience was a toy gifted to our little boy. It was a push toy--a wooden one that had 3 alligators that would chomp their mouths when the wheels turned as the toy was pushed. My son got it last year and STILL uses it regularly. I adore it. It was much more fun and easy for him to use than the plastic one we had gotten him before that. After that, we purchased some wooden puzzles and then a sand toy pail & digging tools set. Followed by a matching broom--the caterpillar pattern--so adorable! So, I guess it is pretty obvious that our family are BIG Melissa & Doug fans! My aunt and uncle now carry M&D toys in their hardware store in the kids section, thanks to my less than subtle suggestions!

The Terrific Twenty is a list that compiles the “best of the best” holiday gifts for the 2012 holiday season, and Melissa & Doug is excited to share it here with you!

Sundog Shirts Review Spotlight

So, when I set out finding goodies for the hunting hop, I found a lot of your typical hunting type shirts. I like to have a laugh (all the time it seems!) and when I saw the shirt at Sundog Shirts that said Beer? I knew it was calling my name.

I'm a dork. A word nerd. So, the combination of Deer + Bear = bear with antlers (Beer?) was just hilarious. It was a play on words and pictures! As I looked through the stock online at the SunDog Shirts shop, I found many examples of the same fun humor!

I'm not one to wear tacky or crude shirts, but this Beer? shirt spoke to me in a lighthearted and fun way. I think it's perfect whether your sitting in your deer stand or sitting in the bar after harvesting your critter. Wear it at home or to bed. I daresay that even most schools (at least the ones in my area) would probably not have a problem with a shirt like this. It's intelligent humor---it would actually be good for an English class!

My point is, SunDog Shirts is one of those places where you truly can find something for every quirky person on your list! From the hunters to the word nerds to the sweetest granny on the block. They are quality from start to finish--as you can see, my shirt was printed on a Gildan Ultra Cotton t-shirt in an adult large. The fit was great and true to size and after 7 washings, there is no sign of wear on the printed front of the shirt.

There are over 100 t-shirts in the store to choose from and there is even a place to submit your own art. There are 11 "hunting" themed shirts alone. You can do several styles-including hoodies. You can WIN a SunDog Shirts hunting-themed t-shirt by entering HERE or you can always go look through the stock in the store and BUY one!! Make sure when you stop to like their Facebook and follow on Twitter that you say you came from Adventures of Mommyhood and say thanks for sponsoring!

Here is a photo of the same hair falls, from Cinagro's Etsy shop!

Hair Falls have hunting flair... Attitude
...and even casual style!!

Oh -- And, I rocked it for my Halloween costume as a pirate wench as well! It's such a veratile piece and fits into my lifestyle in almost every way! (My toddler loves to play with the beads and touch the wool and feathers.) This aspect saved us in many a line at stores when he would otherwise be bored!

So,  check out the Cinagro Farm Etsy shop!!! Like Cinagro Farm on Facebook and enter BOTH giveaways to claim the bonus points for this gnarly prize! Make sure to let them know how awesome they are too! The Cinagro Facebook Page always has great photos and tidbits about farm life and livin' green! Go!

#Thankvember Day 7 - It's Over.

Today, I am thankful that:

1) Obama will remain president

2) Some states shot down their discriminatory marriage amendment

3) a couple of states passed an amendment allowing gay marriage

4) Elizabeth Warren won

5) the election is over, without needing massive recounts and I do hope that the political signs, ads, and mail will follow suit and end soon!

6) My child only screamed a little in the polling place, so it was pretty successful!

7) I think I had a very well thought-out, civil conversation with friends about some of our polling choices -- a NICE chat, not butting heads but actually a back and forth volley!

8) My husband and I are on the 'same page' politically, so it does not cause chaos for us maritally!

9) The weekend looks BEAutiful.

10) I am getting caught up slowly on life.

Thankvember Blog Hop Day 5

Okay, this is day 5 of the Thankvember Blog hop, but I'm just starting, so I'll post tonight and then retro-post the prior 4 days.

Candy Makes the World Go 'Round

I am thankful today for Snickers. Now, continue reading, it's not as silly and shallow as it sounds. I didn't just finish eating one and decide that I'm thankful for it. No, the Snickers symbolizes much more...

I was child-free today, following a Grant Writing class that I am part of I decided to quickly grab some things at Walmart (which I always dread) and run some errands. I was going into the dreaded big box store to get some totes, to organize my house that feels like I'm living in a storage unit. So, I went in through Lawn & Garden. No carts. Great. I didn't want to walk all the way to the other entrance of the store just for a cart, so I decided maybe this was a good thing---I would ONLY get the totes, no side items--I would be able to carry them, stacked, no cart needed.

So, I grabbed 4 totes with lids and 2 large tubs with plastic rope handles. I really wanted my dark chocolate, but since in our town's Walmart the food aisles are WAYYYY on the other side, I decided against it. I was only about 4 aisles into the store, and I had a ton of large, wide-load style totes that I was toting! Still, do you think anyone, including employees of the store would budge an inch to let me pass more easily? Not the old white-haired ladies either. No one. [This is a big reason I despise visiting the big box stores -- oozing with rudeness.] I made it to the lawn & garden checkout.

A lady in front of me strikes up a conversation about something random, I forget now... But, then we get talking about totes, organization, her daughter with 4 kids -- 2 twins in hockey, etc. She has a cart with some really cute home decor inside and tells me that she picked up a few things for her poor, stressed daughter. I thought, "wow, that's so nice!" As we are both waiting she opens her bag of fun-size Snickers and offers me one. I hesitate, though I truly want one, since I opted out of getting my own candy and I'm a total addict. She reads it on my face, and we enjoy a laugh and conversation over a fun-size Snickers. She gives me one more "just in case" for the ride home.  I told her "she made my day." It wasn't a lie. That single act of kindness and generosity made me optimistic that there still are some good people in the world. She ended up telling me she was a pastor at a local church, I just may look her up sometime in the future and try to "make her day." So, today I am thankful for Snickers. Without that little candy bar, I would not have had my belief in the goodness of people reignited by a stranger.

(It also helped to calm my nerves when it was finally my turn and I found one tote was cracked, so I had to trek back and replace it, effectively giving up my place in line. Haha!) kind!!!

#ThankfullyHandmade is HERE!!!

Oh my gosh! I'm fresh out of the deer stand (I let a doe and a fawn pass by...) and I am so tired! It seems like the Hunting Hop just started, right? Fall 2012 Cloth Diaper Giveaway - Diaper Drive!

Welcome to the Fall 2012 Cloth Diaper Drive Giveaway & Fundraising Event hosted by Leettle Baby!

Last spring, with your help, we were able to send 30 diaper covers and 30 cotton prefolds to the DFW Cloth Diaper Project.
This time around we would love to make an even greater impact. For this event, we would love help the Tomahawk Sustainment Mission in their efforts to expand their cause to begin a cloth diapering program that will benefit the people living in the poverty-stricken Appalachia region of Kentucky. The founder, Terri, has estimated that there were 500 children that could benefit from this program.
DID YOU KNOW? The Appalachia region covers 13 different U.S. states, encompasses 420 counties and includes 25 million people? Sadly, some of the most distressed areas have 150% poverty rate over the average U.S. rate.

Why Cloth Diapers?

As many of us parents know, diapering our children can cost us a fortune. According to the Real Diaper Association, using disposables costs a family about $66 dollars per month, and about $1,600 for the first two years. Now imagine if you had to decide if your family was going to eat or spend money on buying more diapers. Some families even have to re-use their babies DISPOSABLE diapers because they cannot afford to buy more. The wonderful thing about cloth diapers is that you do not have to worry about purchasing more diapers and you can always have clean ones readily available! With this diaper program, these families will not have to spend a penny on diapers for their children.
In addition, disposable diapers are not compostable and are estimated to take 250 - 500 years to break down! Now imagine if you did not have a trash service to remove those diapers (like some of those living in the Appalachia area)...where would they go? Cloth diapers provide a more sanitary option to the environment and reduce landfill waste.

How You Can Help

A donation in any amount is greatly appreciated and is tax deductable.
There are quite a few other ways that you can help us get as many of these precious children cloth diapered as possible, just click HERE.
As a thank you for spreading the word about this cloth diapering program, Leettle Baby and a team of amazing bloggers are going to reward you with an awesome giveaway...with the opportunity to win one of the two cloth diaper prize packages!
